From the Lips of Children and Infants

I had a random thought the other day.
God designed the growth and development of human beings, from conception to the grave, perfectly. He could have done this any way He pleased. "Babies" could have been born undeveloped physically and small enough to be crunched up in a womb, but pop out mentally pretty much rarin' to go. How weird would that have been if a 6 month old baby could speak fluently and reason intelligently? "Could you people keep it down!" the baby would blubber from his little carrier. "I'm used to it being all dark and sloshy and cozy and you're all just too loud, and the lights are too bright and I'm confused and I'm hungry and uncomfortable with something in my diaper!" Even though its sometimes puzzling and frustrating trying to figure out why a baby is upset, I'm glad God made it so all they can say is, "WAAAA!" and we are left to lovingly figure it out. But God knows what that "WAAAA" means. He knows baby talk. Because he sees the heart of man (1 Samuel 16:7). And God sees the heart of a toddler....and a preschooler....as well as a counfoundingly confusing teen, a pensive adult and a grumpy old person. He sees our hearts and knows the language we do or don't speak.
Well, I wondered about Psalm 2:8 that says, "From the lips of children and infants, God has ordained praise." Somehow God really loves to hear the praises of children...and even infants! Surely an infant doesn't know how to praise God! Yet they are instruments of praise for Him. In their simplicity....their innocence...in the wonderment we all find in the beauty of a baby, God is praised! And when a toddler chimes out something true about God, the Holy Spirit, Christ, the Bible, it has power! It makes old, crusty people who've heard it all a thousand times before...cry. Why? Because it is fresh and true and pure. God desires that we praise Him with the wonderment, the fresh appreciation that surrounds a newborn baby and a precious child.
Another reason I love doing what I do....I get to see kids bless the Lord over and over and over...and as I do, they teach me and remind me to praise my God and Savior with a childlike, thankful, wonder-filled heart.
